Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:

Atalanta, 3rd position with 46 points and a positive goal difference of +23

The battle for the Scudetto is heating up! Atalanta, currently sitting in 3rd place with 47 points. Atalanta and Torino ended the Serie A Week 23 with a draw on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, Italy. Atalanta couldn’t secure the home win they were aiming for. Meanwhile, Torino has extended their unbeaten streak in the league to seven matches with this draw.

In their last four meetings, both teams have claimed two victories each. In the first leg, Torino edged out a close 2-1 win.

The beginning…

Atalanta opened the scoring in the 35th minute when Berat Djimsiti found the net with a header directed into the bottom right corner. Raoul Bellanova provided the assist with a well-placed cross after Borna Sosa conceded a corner. From the corner, Bellanova delivered the ball into the box, and Djimsiti made a clever run to head it past Milinkovic Savic.

Torino equalized in the 40th minute. Guillermo Maripán scored the equalizer with a close-range header right in the center. Valentino Lazaro provided the assist. After a free kick for Torino, Lazaro delivered a cross into the box, and Maripán headed it in, outmaneuvering Retegui and getting the better of goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

What a moment! Atalanta nearly took the lead in the 74th minute, but Torino’s goalkeeper Milinkovic Savic made an impressive save to his left, denying Mateo Retegui the chance to score from the penalty spot.

✅   Stats before the game:

Atalanta has faced Torino in Serie A recently, losing two out of their last three encounters (with one win), which matches the number of losses they had in their previous 14 meetings with the team from Piedmont (seven wins and five draws). Notably, Atalanta hasn’t suffered two straight defeats against Torino in the top division since the stretch from February to September 2019.

Following their 2-1 win in the first leg, Torino has the chance to achieve a seasonal double over Atalanta for the first time since the 2015/16 season, when they won 1-0 in the first match and 2-1 in the second, with both teams managed by Giampiero Ventura and Edoardo Reja, respectively.

Atalanta has triumphed in their last two home matches against Torino in Serie A, but they have yet to secure three consecutive home victories against the Granata. Additionally, after their 3-0 win at the Gewiss Stadium on May 26, Atalanta could achieve two home wins against this opponent without conceding a goal for the first time in the top flight.

Player Stats

Mateo Retegui has netted four sets of multiple goals in this championship, including three braces and one hat-trick. The only player with more in the top five European leagues for the 2024/25 season is Robert Lewandowski, who has five. Additionally, only two players have recorded more multiple goals in a single Serie A season while wearing the Dea jersey: Luis Muriel in 2019/20 and Filippo Inzaghi in 1996/97, both with five goals.

Samuele Ricci and Lazar Samardzic are the only players born after 2001 to have scored at least one goal and provided at least one assist in each of the last four Serie A seasons, starting from 2021/22.

Ché Adams has tallied seven goals in 21 matches this season, marking his first Serie A goal against Atalanta on August 25. Notably, only one other Scottish player has scored more in a single Serie A season: Denis Law, who netted 10 goals with Torino in 1961/62.
