Vlahovic: “Napoli win down to team effort”

Dusan Vlahovic scored a stunning goal to wrap up Fiorentina’s 2-0 win over Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo on Saturday night – but after the game the Serbian striker was keen to play down his contribution to the result.

“It’s a team effort,” he said, speaking in the mixed zone in the bowels of the San Paolo. “It doesn’t matter who scores – what matters is that we win football matches. We need to keep this up and keep working hard. If we do that, we can go far.”

Vlahovic insisted that there was no great secret to his impressive form in front of goal in recent weeks.
“I’m training hard,” he said. “I don’t believe that anything just happens in life – there’s always hard work a determination behind it. As I’ve said before, it doesn’t matter who scores, just that we win games. We need to climb the table – that’s our objective.”
Vlahovic is now Fiorentina’s top scorer in Serie A with four goals, but – again – the Serb chose to instead emphasise the quality of his team-mates.
“I hadn’t thought about it, but it’s a nice thing,” he said. “We have lots of great players in the team – [Federico] Chiesa, [Gaetano] Castrovilli, [Patrick] Cutrone, [Franck] Ribery… We have a strong team and we need to keep going and work even harder because we have a very important home game against Genoa on Saturday and we need to try to get the win.”
The Beppe Iachini effect has been clear to see – both in the Viola’s result and in their performances – and Vlahovic spoke warmly about the impact of the boss.
“He wants us to be aggressive, determined and compact,” he said. “He wants us to show grit and aggression – the rest comes by itself. We have a good bond with the coach. It’s great to play at Fiorentina. I think we all feel proud of that and we take that onto the pitch with us.”
Last but certainly not least, Vlahovic had a special dedication for his goal.
“As I said after the Inter game, I want to score goals that count for something,” he said. “I’m really pleased with the goal. As well as my own family, I’d like to dedicate it to the Commisso family. They’re always there for us, providing amazing support and strength.”
