Iachini takes positives from draw at Bologna

Giuseppe Iachini opted to take the positives from Fiorentina’s 1-1 draw at Bologna at the Stadio Dall’Ara on Monday afternoon, pointing to his side’s ample room for improvement as the main cause for optimism after the Viola were denied all through points by a last-gasp equaliser.

“The positive is that we can improve in many areas,” said Iachini in his post-match press conference after the game. “We were compact, we showed focus in defence and we didn’t give many chances away. We didn’t let ourselves get open and we didn’t allow them to counter – those are the kind of things that a team that wants to win matches needs to do. We’re building from those principles and I think the team well. We didn’t give much away apart from a few set plays where we needed to show more concentration.

“It’s two points dropped. It’s to be expected that there’s a lot of disappointment there after you conceded in the fourth minute of stoppage time from a set play on the edge of the area.”
Iachini acknowledged that there could have been more incision to the Viola’s attacking play at the Dall’Ara.
“We need to improve when we’re in possession and bringing the ball out,” he said. “We’ve been working on that but we need to focus on those attacking situations where we can be more dangerous. We did that well at times but at others we were too slow and not direct enough. Those issued need attention and work.”
