Castrovilli signs new five-year deal with Fiorentina

Gaetano Castrovilli has put pen to paper on a new five-year contract with Fiorentina following an impressive start to the season with the Viola.

“I want to thank the coach for his confidence,” said Castrovilli, appearing at a press conference alongside sporting director Daniele Pradè on Thursday. “I would love to become a symbol for Fiorentina. I’m here to improve every day and be a part of this project and this group. We want to continue as we have been doing and continue to perform well, getting better every day.”

Pradè went on to reveal the moment that the club realised that they had a serious talent on their hands in the shape of Castrovilli.
“We listened to what our coach told us,” he said. “When you coach tells you at the start of the season that you have a player that’s ready for a big Serie A season like the one we want to have at Fiorentina, that gives you confidence. Then there were his performances in pre-season. The friendly matches and the tour made us realise that we had a player that was ready to play for Fiorentina.”
When did you start feeling like an important player for Fiorentina and are you hoping for a call-up to the national team?
“I felt important when I came off against Juventus and the whole stadium applauded me. I’m happy. I love challenges so I want to rise this one and overcome it. I hope to get an Italy call-up.”
Are you surprised to be keeping Marco Benassi out of the team?
“I spend a lot of time with Marco and he really helps me to get better. I wasn’t expecting to be a starter. As I’ve said, I focus on improving every day and on keeping my starting spot and that’s what I’ll continue to do.”
How important were the past two seasons in Serie B for you?

“It was really important for me to get experience in Serie B. It helped me to develop a lot and I owe my former team-mates at Cremona a lot. They helped me to improve across the board, but especially from a tactical standpoint.”

Is there anyone you’d like to dedicate this moment to?
“I want to dedicate it to my family. Before I play, I often think about all the sacrifices that my family has made. It’s a big motivation for me and helps me to do well and give the best possible account of myself.”
