Jose Maria Basanta spoke from the press room of the Stadio Franchi today:
“I chose Fiorentina because this is my last chance to play in Europe. The Italian league is one of the best in the world. Fiorentina are a model club; an important club that is growing very quickly. I’ll give my best so that we have a chance of winning the Scudetto.”
What position will you play?
“I’ll adapt according to what the manager wants and what the team needs. I’m used to playing both in a back three and a back four.”
Has Tevez spoken to you about playing in Fiorentina v Juventus matches?
“Yes. Judging from the photos I’ve seen, there’s a big rivalry here.”
Are you ready for the Roma game?
“Well, I’m finally taking part in my first training sessions with the team. Unfortunately, because of problems with my visa, I wasn’t able to join in with the squad beforehand.”
Why does Gonzalo Rodriguez not get a look in with the national team?
“He’s a great player. Unfortunately for him, the former Argentina manager decided on different players for the World Cup. I hope he has more opportunities under the new boss.”
Have you spoken with Gomez?
“Yes – he’s another fantastic player in this team. I’m certain that Mario will be a part of the German national side in the future, perhaps even for the upcoming friendly against Argentina.”
Is Messi the best player in the world?
“Yes. He’s always surprising you in training with new tricks.”
What’s your view of Cuadrado?
“We’re all well aware of Cuadrado’s quality. I hope to see him playing in a Viola shirt this season!”
