Here are the declarations of Italy Head Coach Cesare Prandelli after losing the game against Costa Rica on Friday 20 June 2014 at the Arena Pernambuco in Recife, Brazil:  Italy 0 – 1 Costa Rica.  Italy are now in second position of Group D and the passing to the next round will be decided on June 24 in the game against Uruguay.

Prandelli saying, “We were too slow.  We approached the match in the wrong manner. We now have to recover and regain our physical and mental energy for the game against Uruguay. We have a chance to still go through and I am sure we will play better. Let’s not panic, we can still progress to the last sixteen.”

Prandelli pointed out what went wrong against Costa Rica: “We had a great chance with Balotelli in the first half, but we did not capitalize on it. I have to admit, I expected a little more from the three substitutes; I wanted my players to help Mario more and to try to get him to play deeper in Costa Rica’s defence. We have to be faster in regaining possession, we have to all work together for that. We only have a few problems, and we know what they are.”

Prandelli also paid tribute to Costa Rica for their performance: “They are not a shock side to me, they are a well organized team with quality individuals: I had already told that to Italian journalists. Temperatures were very high, but this is no excuse, we have to manage our games better. Costa Rica were more explosive, like most South American teams are: We had to play more organized than we did today in order to make up for us not being fresh and fit as Costa Rica were.”
