GALLIANI: PETERSON COULD HAVE BEEN A WINNING FOOTBALL COACH

MILAN – Adriano Galliani was at the sala Buzzanti to celebrate Dan Peterson’s 80th birthday. He spoke to the press about the basketball legend. He said: “In the spring of 1987 Olimpia won the European Cup, Scudetto and Italian Cup with Peterson on the bench. Silvio Berlusconi serious spoke to me about giving the bench to Dan Peteson because the coach has to be a motivator of men. He was perfect, and he is the ultimate coach. We seriously offered him the job at Milan but he turned it down as he didn’t feel it was right. Pity. I am sure he could have been the first coach to win both in basketball and in football.”

“Arrigo Sacchi is very similar to Dan Peterson. It is a regret of ours that he never became Milan coach. On the Monday morning he sent us some notes on technique and tactics and psychology that are absolutely brilliant. He did it as a friend and they are fantastic. In many ways he is very similar to Sacchi. After every game or event he always sends me analysis and I absorb his wisdom. He says we should stick with Mihajlovic.”
