AC MILAN: FULL MARKS FOR SILVIO BERLUSCONI

On Saturday Milan will live a very special day for their history. President Silvio Berlusconi spoke about his thirty years at the club.

MILAN – History and future. President Berlusconi gave an interview to Gazzetta dello Sport:

– Mr. President, how would you rate your thirty years at Milan?

“We started aiming at 10. As it went, I would say full marks. We had thirty wonderful years. We won more than rest. We conquered 363 million supporters. And most of all, our love for Milan has been rewarded and our hearts have been filled with satisfaction.”

– The best day ever

“There were a lot. Unforgettable was the first Champions league triumph in Barcelona, when we defeated Steaua Bucarest 4-0. I remember the show at Camp Nou full of red-and-black flags. There were traffic jams of supporters cars and buses on the highway to Spain. It was the win of the Rossoneri people, not only of the team.”

– Coaches and players

“Sacchi reminds me of my first wonderful years. But I’m close friend of Ancelotti and Capello as well. I would like to see all our stars again. From Van Basten, who quit football to early, to our captain  Baresi; from Savicevic to Ronaldinho, from Maldini to Costacurta, and Tassotti, Donadoni, Massaro. From Weah to Gullit, and Sheva, Kakà… I cannot mention them all. I’m proud to say that my Milan is the only team in football history to have had three players in the Ballon d’Or top three for two years, in 1988 and 1989.”

– The new signings

“We have demonstrated that we are able to build good teams. Of course, you need to invest a lot of money. We spent more than 1,2 billion euro for mIlan in these thirty years. Boateng and Balotelli failure? And why? Boateng has returned with a great desire to play and he has done well so far. Balotelli is recovering from a serious injury. If he manages to avoid the mistakes he did in the past, he could be a resource. I think it’s worth to try.”

– The aim

“On Saturday, when we celebrate the anniversary, I would like to have lunch with the team at Milanello. I’ll seize the time to ask Mihajlovic to win all games to the end. I was busy on many fronts, but now I’m back to the pitch. We are not working only for the present, we are building up a team for a new course with promising youngsters and a lot of talents. I’m confident we will manage. In these years we have won eight Champions League finals. We will reach ten successes within five years.”

– The future

“Mister Bee? I’ve close to my heart the good of Milan. Many investors have stepped into modern football and so it is difficult to remain competitive at top level. That’s why we believed that we needed new energy and assets. On this basis we have a negotiation in progress. We are waiting for a conclusion soon. But it not true that Marina presses to sell. Lifetime president? We’ll see how the next thirty years go, than we decide…”
