Vincenzo Montella opened today’s news conference ahead of Fiorentina’s visit to Sampdoria by praising the work done by his opposite number Mihajlovic: “Samp are one of the teams that have benefited most from bringing in a new coach, so I can only compliment Mihajlovic for what he’s done. He’s very competitive and knows how to instil confidence in his players.

“Physically we’re in decent shape, perhaps we lack something mentally at times and that may be why we aren’t always about to express our full potential.

“We have to face Sampdoria focusing on our own game, trying to enjoy our football and the results will come for us.

“As for our injury problems, we’ll see how Vargas is but I don’t think Pizarro can make it.

“Matri? He knows all the right movements to make when leading the line, he’s getting chances and I have complete faith in him. He’ll start tomorrow.”
