Montella: “I’ll pick the most in-form players”

Vincenzo Montella previewed tomorrow's Coppa Italia quarter-final against Siena during a press conference at the Stadio Franchi this afternoon.

"There's a semi-final spot at stake tomorrow and we want to take it. We'll go out there trying to win the game as we always do. Siena are a team that could hold their own in Serie A."

How's Matri?
"We won't risk him tomorrow but we hope to have him fit in time for Sunday."

Gomez?
"He's not returned to full trainng yet."

How important is a club's youth academy?
"Very. It's important to bring players through to the first team. All successful teams use their academy as a resource."

Rebic and Matos?
"Their development is coming along very well."

Spolli's foul on Matos?
"The one on Tomovic was worse…"

Mati Fernandez?
"A fantastic talent. He's finally found a bit of consistency. He's been improving physically since the start of the season and you can see that in matches now."

What's the secret behind Fiorentina's new-found defensive solidity?
"Lots of things. We've improved as a team."

Will you rotate tomorrow?
"I'll pick the most in-form players."

Does Tomovic's injury force you to rethink your transfer strategy?
"He'll miss at least five or six games. We're a bit thin at the back. A lot depends on what's available out there."

Could Mexes be a possible transfer target?
"Not to my knowledge. He's a player with lots of qualities and a few defects, like everyone."

The win over Catania?
"I'm satisfied with the way the team performed."
