COACH INZAGHI: “We’ve had a great UEFA Youth League campaign”

MILAN – This is what the Primavera coach Filippo Inzaghi had to say in his post-match interview after the UEFA Youth League defeat to Chelsea:"There is the odd regret for the foul at the end of the first-half from which they then scored the goal. In my opinion, we gave a great first-half display and we attacked on the counter well with Barisic and Pinato. It’s clear that if you don’t score on the break and you concede from a set-play that you have to then open up, which leaves you exposed at the back. We were low on energy and had few changes available. The Viareggio Tournament took a lot out of us. A stronger team goes through today, we need to recognize this. I’ve praised my players. We’ve had a great UEFA Youth League campaign as we qualified from a tough group in my opinion. I’m sorry about the score-line, but we were eliminated by a stronger side at the end of the day. Our focus is now back on the league championship and trying to win the title, which would be something special for these players. We played the best in Europe and we were always on par. Perhaps Chelsea are a class above the rest and we struggled today. I won’t forget that today we were missing a player like Cristante that, when the First Team lets us have him, changes the team. He was missing along with Di Molfetta, we had a reduced squad. We used up a lot of energy for the Viareggio Tournament and I would like to play this match again, despite the fact that Chelsea have an edge over us. We were on par with them for almost the entire first-half. We need to build from this. We’re happy with what we’ve done regardless.”
