The Italian U21 team defeated Slovakia in the European Championship Group A Matchday 2 on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the Anton Malatinský Stadium in Trnava, Slovakia. Following their opening victory against Romania U21, Italy U21 win their first two matches in a single European Championship for the first time since the 2013 edition.
Indeed, it is a great job! Italy has secured a win and qualified for the quarterfinals of the Under 21 European Championship with one round to go.
The Azzurrini, following their victorious start against Romania (thanks to Baldanzi’s goal), also triumphed over Slovakia 1-0, with a stunning goal from Casadei just 7 minutes into the first half. Italy’s journey in this European Championship continues, sitting at the top of group A with a perfect score, alongside Spain. The only downside is Baldanzi’s injury in the 63rd minute, as he left the field in pain after a rough foul.

Italy scored the only goal of the match in the 7th minute. Cesare Casadei opened the scoring and put Italy ahead: with an open goal, set up by Gnonto, he targets the far post, strikes with his left foot, and finds the back of the net, having evaded goalkeeper Lubomir Belko.
Stats before the game
Historically, the Azzurrini have not won more than one match in a single tournament since UEFA EURO 2019 (where they won two). Italy U21 achieved their last victory without conceding a goal (1-0 against Romania U21) and have not won two consecutive matches with clean sheets in the European Championship since June 2013: 1-0 against England and 4-0 against Israel, under the management of Devis Mangia.
On the other hand, Slovakia U21 allowed three goals in their UEFA EURO 2025 debut (2-3 against Spain U21), matching the total number of goals they conceded during the entire group stage in their last European Championship appearance in 2017.
