👉🏆    The big day has arrived and it is a sour day for AS Roma losing the Europa League Final game after penalty shoot-outs on Wednesday 31 May 2023 at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary. Sevilla keep their record in the UEFA Cup/Europa League finals spotless and join Manchester United and Porto on seven international trophies. Sadly, Roma, do not succeed in an encore after the Conference League lifted to the sky last year in Tirana.

After an endless match, Sevilla won the 2022/23 Europa League on penalties. The mistakes by Mancini and Ibanez were decisive at the end of an unlucky evening for Mourinho’s team which, after Paulo Dybala’s advantage, only recovered with an own goal from Gianluca Mancini. Goalkeeper Bounou kept his team alive with two sensational saves from Tammy Abraham and Andrea Belotti, then saved himself at the last second with Smalling hitting the crossbar. For Roma, the European adventure ends in the most painful way possible.

Previously, the only precedent between the Giallorossi and the Andalusians in Europe saw Sevilla win 2-0 in the round of 16 of the same competition in 2019/20, which was also the last time the Spaniards won the competition. among other things against Inter.

Roma opened the score in the 35th minute. Argentinean forward Paulo Dybala defeated Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Gianluca Mancini.

OH NO!!!!! Sevilla equalized in the 55th minute with an own goal by Gianluca Mancini

The situation getting tense! In the 76th minute, luckily, Referee Anthony Taylor denied a penalty for Sevilla after consulting the VAR.

✅    Stats before the game: Sevilla have reached the final of the UEFA Cup/Europa League for the seventh time, two more than any other club. The Spaniards have won the competition on each of the previous occasions they reached the final (2006, 2007, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2020). Roma will contest the UEFA Cup/Europa League final for the second time, having previously lost to Inter Milan in 1991. This is Roma’s fifth final in a major European competition following the 1961 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup ), 1984 (European Cup), 1991 (UEFA Cup) and 2022 (UEFA Conference League). Roma and Sevilla’s only previous encounter in Europe saw the Spanish side win 2-0 in the round of 16 of this tournament in 2019/20, which was also the last time the Andalusians won the competition. Sevilla have won six titles in major European competitions, all in the UEFA Cup/Europa League. Were they to win their seventh title, only five other clubs would have more trophies in Europe’s big competitions – Real Madrid (16), Barcelona (12), AC Milan (nine), Liverpool (nine) and Bayern Munich (eight). This will be the 14th time that a Spanish side has faced an Italian side in a major European competition in the final, with the Spaniards having won the title on nine of the previous 13 occasions, including each of the last three.
