✅   Slovenia and Serbia ended the UEFA EURO 2024 Matchday 2 with a draw on Thursday 20 June 2024 at the Munich Football Arena in Munich, Germany. Serbia equalized at the last second, the 95th minute, with a header from Milan player Luka Jović, after going behind with Karnicnik’s goal. The draw keeps the hopes of both teams alive, with Slovenia having, however, savored the passage of the round until the sensational final. Generally speaking, the draw is a fair result.

Slovenia will play everything against England on the final day of this group, while Serbia will face Denmark.

The previous meeting between Slovenia and Serbia (including FR Yugoslavia) dates back to EURO 2000. The two teams drew 3-3 in the group stage after the Slovenians’ initial 3-0 lead. That was, so far, the only occasion in which a team did not win a match at the European Championships after going ahead by three goals.

Slovenia took the lead in the 69th minute. Zan Karnicnik defeated Serbia goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic from very close range with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Timi Max Elsnik.

What a thriller. Serbia equalized in the 95th minute. Luka Jovic defeated Slovenia goalkeeper Jan Oblak from very close range with a headed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Ivan Ilic with a cross following a corner conceded by Jon Gorenc Stankovic.

✅  Stats before the game:  Six of the eight previous meetings between Slovenia and Serbia in all competitions have ended in equal terms, with each side winning in the remaining two. Slovenia and Serbia last met in the Nations League, in June 2022. Serbia won 4-1 in Belgrade before drawing 2-2 in Ljubljana a week later. Slovenia is the team that has played more matches than any other at the European Championship without winning a single one: three draws and one defeat in the four played so far. Including matches played as Yugoslavia, Serbia won two of their first three UEFA European Championship matches (L1), reaching the final in both 1960 and 1968. However, they have only managed one success in their next 12 in the tournament since then (D2 , 9P). Considering all competitions, Slovenia has lost only two of their last 22 matches (W13, D7): 2-0 against Finland and 2-1 against Denmark last year, in EURO 2024 Qualifying.
