 ✅  Unbelievable! Napoli lost the Coppa Italia Round of 16 defeated by Cremonese on penalties on Tuesday 17 January 2023 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Napoli, Italy. Cremonese qualified to the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup and will face Muorinho’s Roma on February 1st and will be one way.

In the first half, Cremonese managed took the lead after eighteen minutes through Charles Pickel. Napoli reacted and first there was an equalizer by Juan Jesus in the 33rd minute and then the doubling signed by Giovanni Simeone in the 36th minute. In the second half, Napoli controlled the game, but in the end suffered the mockery of Afena-Gyan’s header which took the match to extra time. Worth noting is the expulsion of Sernicola in the 100th minute leaving Cremonese with 10 players. Lobotka’s mistake was decisive and condemned Napoli to elimination.

The game decided on penalty shootouts.  It is Cremonese to cause the upset and grabbed this valuable away victory.

Cremonese opened the score in the 18th minute. Charles Pickel defeated Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret from very close range with a right-footed shot to the center. The assist is by David Okereke.

Napoli equalized for the 1-1 in the 33rd minute. Juan Jesus defeated Cremonese goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi from very close range with a headed shot to the bottom right corner following a corner.

Argentinean forward Giovanni Simeone breaking the draw in the 36th minute. Simeone scored with a headed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Alessio Zerbin.

Cremonese not giving up and equalized for the 2-2 in the 87th minute.  Felix Afena-Gyan scored with a headed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Luca Zanimacchia.

Stats before the game: Napoli and Cremonese have met three times in the Coppa Italia; the Neapolitans achieved three successes in the set with an aggregate score of 5-0: two of these matches arrived in the round of 16, in the 1994/95 edition – on that occasion the Azzurri won 3-0 in the first leg and 1-0 in the second leg. Overall, this will be the 27th match between Napoli and Cremonese in all competitions; the Grigiorossi’s last success dates back to 11 September 1994 in Serie A – since then, the Neapolitans have remained unbeaten in eight matches (W5 D3). Napoli have kept clean sheets in all three matches against Cremonese in the Coppa Italia, only with Modena (four), Pescara (five) and Taranto (five) have they played more matches and never conceded a goal in the competition. Napoli hosted Cremonese 13 times between Serie A, Serie B and Coppa Italia, always remaining unbeaten; in fact, the Neapolitans have collected 11 wins and two draws, the most recent of which was a 0-0 draw in Serie A in October 1995.
