Napoli won the Serie A Week 9 game defeating Hellas Verona on Saturday 21 October 2023 at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium in Verona, Italy. With this victory, Napoli momentarily leads Juventus and Fiorentina on 17 points, two behind Inter and four behind leaders Milan. For Verona, stuck at eight and without a win since the second day of the championship, the situation becomes difficult given that the four points advantage over the third from last could be reduced once the day is completed.

After the 2-0 in the first half, Napoli rounded off the score with an escape from a counter attack by Kvaratskhelia. Verona reacted and shortened with Lazovic, then hits Meret a couple of times and is unable to fully reopen the match. In the last half hour of the match, opportunities on both sides but the result did not change again until the final whistle in Abisso. Politano, one goal and two assists, and Kvaratskhelia, two goals, are the absolute protagonists of today’s match.

In the next round, Hellas Verona will play the away game against Juventus while Napoli, after the match against Union Berlin on Tuesday evening in the Champions League, there will be the big match with AC Milan at the Diego Armando Maradona.

Napoli opened the score in the 27th minute. Matteo Politano defeated Hellas Verona goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Giacomo Raspadori.

Napoli lost their last championship match against Fiorentina and have not recorded two defeats in a row in Serie A since December 2021 (against Atalanta and Empoli in that case). Napoli have won only two of their last seven away games in the league (D4, L1), after having achieved eight successes away from home in a row in Serie A, in a period in which they had conceded just one goal in total.
