AS Roma, 6th position with 16 points and a positive goal difference of +2

Roma win the Serie A Week 9 game against Lecce on Sunday 9 October 2022 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy.  Roma played a game of suffering despite the numerical superiority since the 22nd minute when Morten Hjulmand was sent off. Roma rise to 19 points being -4 from leaders Napoli with 23 points. Lecce maintains a 2-point advantage over the relegation zone. In the next round of the championship, Lecce will host Fiorentina, while Roma will face Sampdoria.

Roma opened the score in the 6th minute. Chris Smalling defeated Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone with a headed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Lorenzo Pellegrini with a cross following a corner conceded by Morten Hjulmand.

Lecce equalized for the 1-1 in the 39th minute. Gabriel Strefezza leveled the score with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Samuel Umtiti following a corner conceded by Lorenzo Pellegrini.

Roma took the lead again in the 48th minute. Forward Paulo Dybala converted a penalty with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The penalty is conceded by Kristoffer Askildsen.

✅  Stats before the game:  Roma have won eight of their last nine Serie A games against Lecce (scoring an average of 2.4 goals per game), the only exception being a 4-2 by the Apulians on 7 April 2012.   After winning their first ever away match against Roma in Serie A (3-2 on April 20, 1986), Lecce did not find success in any of the following 15 (2N, 13P).
Roma could obtain three wins against newly promoted teams in the first 10 league days for the third time in their history in Serie A, after 1997/98 and 2004/05 (when, however, the teams from B faced were five).   Roma have lost only one of their last 11 home games in Serie A (6W, 4N), the most recent, against Atalanta – the Giallorossi have not recorded two consecutive home knockouts in the league since January 2020.  Lecce have drawn four of their first eight games in a Serie A season for the first time in their history; the Apulian team in general finished in a draw four of the last six matches in the top flight (1W, 1L), as many as the previous 29 (including the previous participation).
