Serie A Standing BEFORE the game
Inter, 1st position with 18 points and a positive goal difference of  +16
Bologna, 8th position with 10 points and a positive goal difference of +2

Inter and Bologna ended the Serie A Week 8 with a draw on Saturday 7 October 2023 at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, Italy. Inter squandered a double advantage by being overtaken by a courageous Bologna. Francesco Acerbi and Lautaro Martinez scored, Riccardo Orsolini responded with a penalty and, in the second half, the final equalizer goal scored by Joshua Zirkzee. Surely, a great game for Thiago Motta’s team, who also found points at San Siro against Inter and practically without the starting defense. On the other hand, a missed opportunity for Inzaghi’s team to extend their lead, with Milan now having the chance to take first place.

Inter opened the score in the 11th minute. Francesco Acerbi defeated Bologna goalkeeper with a headed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Hakan Çalhanoglu following a corner conceded by Riccardo Calafiori.

Inter with another goal. In the 13th minute, it is Lautaro Martínez  to score with a right footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is  by Marcus Thuram. Lautaro remaining sole top scorer now with 10 goals.

Bologna shortened the distance in the 19th minute.  Riccardo Orsolini defeated Inter goalkeeper by converting a penalty with a left footed shot to the bottom right corner. The penalty is conceded by Lautaro Martínez  after a foul on Lewis Ferguson.

Stats before the game: The last draw in Serie A between Bologna and Inter dates back to 19 September 2017: 1-1 scored by Simone Verdi for the rossoblù and Mauro Icardi for the nerazzurri – since then four victories in Emilia and seven in Lombardy. Since Simone Inzaghi has coached Inter, the Nerazzurri have collected two victories at home against the Rossoblù and two defeats away. Inter have recorded three consecutive home victories against Bologna in Serie A and in both of the last two in order of time they have even triumphed with a score of 6-1 – the Nerazzurri team have not achieved four home successes in a row in the league against the Emilians from the period 2001-2004. This is the fifth time in the three points per win era that Inter have started a Serie A championship with at least six wins in the first seven games played (after 2019/20, 2017/18, 2002/03 and 1997/98 ), but in none of the previous four did it win the Scudetto (three times second and once fourth). Bologna have collected four consecutive clean sheets in Serie A for the first time since March 2016 and have not reached five since November 1999 (in that case the fifth match was against Inter, but at home) – for the Emilians they are well 428 minutes without conceding a goal, currently the longest open streak in the top five European leagues 23/24.
