👉 Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Lecce, 8th position with 4 points and a positive goal difference of +1
Salernitana, 15th position with 2 points and a goal difference of “0”

Lecce won the Serie A Week 3 game defeating Salernitana on Sunday 3 September 2023 at the Via del Mare Stadium in Lecce, Italy. This is an important victory because Lecce climbed from the 8th to the 4th position reaching 7 points same as Juventus.  Salernitana lost their first game this season after 2 previous draws.

Previoulsy, Lecce have won eight of their 18 matches against Salernitana between Serie A and Serie B; five draws and five successes of the Campania team complete the balance. In the top competition, three away points for each of the two teams in the two matches last season (1-2 in both cases).

Lecce opened the score in the 6th minute. Nikola Krstović defeated Salernitana goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa with a headed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Valentin Gendrey.

Lecce sealed the game just before ending the game in the 98th minute. Gabriel Strefezza converted a penalty with a right footed shot to the top left corner. The penalty is conceded by Jovane Cabral.

Stats before the game: After missing the goal in two of the first three matches with Salernitana in the league (in the cadet tournament) Lecce went on target in each of the subsequent 15 matches between Serie A and Serie B (25 total goals, 1.7 on average per match). Lecce have recorded a win and a draw in their first two league games and could go unbeaten in their first three in a single Serie A season for the first time since 2004/05, with Zdenek Zeman in charge. In general, the only other occasion in which the Apulian team has succeeded dates back to 2001/02. Salernitana had never gone undefeated in their first two games in a Serie A championship: the Campanians come from two draws in a row and have not collected at least three in the competition from the six consecutive collected between March and April 2023. Lecce recovered four points from a disadvantageous situation in the current Serie A (record in the first 180′ played); in the entire championship 22/23 the Apulians had earned eight total once under in the score.

👉 Lineup LECCE (4-3-3): Falcone; Gendrey, Baschirotto, Pongracic, Gallo; Rafia, Ramadani, Kaba; Banda, Krstovic, Almqvist.

👉 Lineup SALERNITANA (3-4-2-1): Ochoa; Lovato, Gyomber, Pirola; Legowski, Coulibaly, Kastanos, Bradaric; Candreva, Cabral; Botheim.
