Empoli, 19th position with 0 points and a negative goal difference of -3

Empoli lost the Serie A Week 3 game against Juventus on Sunday 3 September 2023 at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in Empoli, Italy. This is the second victory in the championship for Juventus, who regained the three points after the draw against Bologna and rose to 7 points in the company of Lecce, minus two behind the leaders Inter and Milan with 9 points each. Third consecutive defeat, however, for Empoli, who remain the only team to have yet to score points or score in the league, thus occupying the last position in the standings.

Juventus opened the score in the 24th minute. It is Danilo to defeat Empoli goalkeeper with a right-footed shot following a corner conceded by Sebastian Walukiewicz.

In the 39th minute, a super save by Empoli goalkeeper Berisha denied forward Dušan Vlahović the chance to convert the penalty. The penalty was conceded by Youssef Maleh after a foul on Federico Gatti.

Juventus sealed the victory in the 82nd minute. Federico Chiesa scored following the assist by Arkadiusz Milik.

Stats before the game: Despite the success in the most recent match against Castellani, only against Inter (10) does Empoli have more defeats than against Juventus at home in Serie A (nine). Furthermore, only against Milan (29) and Rome (26) have the Tuscans conceded more goals than against the Bianconeri (25) in internal matches in the competition. Empoli have lost their first two matches of this championship and have not made up for three defeats in their first three Serie A matches of the season since the 2005/06 season – one of these against Juventus (0-4 home). Furthermore, in general, the Tuscans have been without goals for three rounds and have not played four games in a row without hitting the target since October 2016 (eight, even in that case the black and whites appear in the streak – 0-3 at home). Juventus have recorded one win and one draw in their first two games of this championship; since Massimiliano Allegri’s return to the Juventus bench (21/22), the Old Lady has never collected more than one success in the first three games of the season – W1, D2 in 22/23, D1, L2 in 21/22. While in four of his previous five seasons in charge of the club, the team had collected maximum points – the only exception being 15/16 (D1, L2).

👉 Lineup Empoli (4-3-3): Berisha; Bereszynski, Walukiewicz, Luperto, Pezzella; Fazzini, Marin, Maleh; Baldanzi, Caputo, Cambiaghi.

👉 Lineup Juventus (3-5-2): Perin; Gatti, Bremer, Danilo; McKennie, Moretti, Locatelli, Rabiot, Kostic; Chiesa, Vlahovic.
