AC Milan win the Serie A Week 19 game defeating Empoli on Wednesday 22 December 2021 at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in Empoli, Italy.  The victory is an added boost for Milan getting back the 2nd position with 42 points while Napoli stepped down from the 2nd to the 3rd after losing the game against Spezia.  Napoli remain with 39 points. AC Milan are the second team in Serie A history to win at least 17 away league games in a single calendar year (after Napoli, 18 in 2017).

Franck Kessie scored 14 Serie A goals in 2021: the last AC Milan midfielder to score so much in a single calendar year was Kaká in 2008 (15).

Milan have lost only one of their last nine Serie A matches against Empoli (1-2, in April 2017, with Vincenzo Montella on the bench): four wins and four draws complete the set.

Empoli have won their last two home league games and could reach three successes in a row, at home, in the competition, for the first time since December 2018, with Giuseppe Iachini on the bench. This will be the last away match in 2021 for AC Milan, which will have the last chance to become the second team in Serie A history to achieve at least 17 away league wins in a single calendar year (after Napoli’s 18 in 2017 – also Atalanta at 16 before matchday 19); however, the Rossoneri have only won one of the three away games played since last November (1N, 1P).
