Sassuolo and Salernitana ended the Serie A Week 12 game with a draw on Friday 10 November 2023 at the Mapei Stadium in Sassuolo, Italy. With one point gained, Salernitana remained in the last position but brought home a great performance. Sassuolo is in 14th position with one point more than Genoa.

A very intense and heated match with Salernitana immediately taking a double lead thanks to goals from Ikwuemesi after 5 minutes and from Boulaye Dia. During the match, Dionisi’s team grew with a great Thorstvedt who scored his first brace in Serie A. Many opportunities in the second half especially for Sassuolo, impeccable goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa was in great form and denied the goal several times saving his teammates.

What a quick start! Salernitana opened the score in the 5th minute. Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi defeated Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli with a right-footed shot to the center. The assist is by Pasquale Mazzocchi.

Sassuolo conceded another goal in the 17th minute. Boulaye Dia scored with a right-footed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Loum Tchaouna.

Sassuolo shortened the distance in the 36th minute before ending the first half.  Kristian Thorstvedt defeated Salernitana goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa from very close range with a left-footed shot to the center. The headed assist is by Grégoire Defrel.

Sassuolo equalized in the 53rd minute. It is Kristian Thorstvedt to score a brace with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Matías Viña.

✅    Stats before the game: After remaining unbeaten in the first three matches against Salernitana in Serie A (2W, 1D), Sassuolo lost the most recent match against the Campania region (0-3 against Arechi on 22 April). Sassuolo won both matches at the MAPEI Stadium against Salernitana in Serie A without conceding any goals and scoring six; among the teams against which the neroverdi boast 100% home successes, only against Crotone (three) have they played more matches in the tournament.  One of the two largest victories recorded by Sassuolo in Serie A came against Salernitana: 5-0 on 2 October 2022, the other against Genoa on 29 July 2020 (also in that case 5-0 and both at the MAPEI Stadium). Sassuolo have lost six matches in this championship (W3, D2), only once have they suffered more defeats in their first 11 Serie A matches of the season (seven in 2017/18). Salernitana is one of three teams that have not yet won any match this season in the top five European leagues, together with Lyon and Almería. In case of failure in this match, they would become the 30th team in the history of Serie A with zero successes in the first 12 matches of the season – of these only three avoided relegation at the end of the championship (Cagliari 2005/06, Varese 1970/ 71 and the Triestina 1942/43).
