It was a lively first half with the Nerazzurri fearlessly pushing forward and a super Handanovic between the posts. Inter’s attacking manoeuvres were sharp thanks to Icardi, Guarin, Cambiasso and Jonathan. However, on 35 minutes the visitors took the lead when Bonaventura fired a right-footer past Handanovic. Then, one minute later, Icardi responded at the other end, latching on to Guarin’s ball, cutting inside and smacking a right-footer into the net. It was the fourth goal of the season for the Argentine. As the half came to a close there were chances for both sides but, after three minutes of injury time, the teams went to the dressing rooms with the score at 1-1.

The second half was an unlucky one for Inter, as Guarin hit the crossbar in the 54th minute and Palacio hit the post six minutes later. Mazzarri’s lads threw everything they could at Atalanta, but the visitors held strong. Colantuono’s team nearly found the net on 87 minutes but Jonathan cleared off the line. Then it was the Brazilian to hit the crossbar at the other end, before Icardi failed to put away the rebound. In the 90th minute though Bonaventura crashed home a header to make the final result 1-2.
