2025 FIFA Club World Cup

The FIFA Club World Cup is a prestigious international men’s football tournament organized by FIFA, the global authority for the sport. It first took place in 2000 under the name FIFA Club World Championship. In addition, the event paused from 2001 to 2004 due to various issues which included the collapse of FIFA’s marketing partner, International Sport and Leisure (ISL). However, starting in 2005, it became an annual event until 2023. After the 2023 tournament, the competition will transition to a quadrennial format beginning in 2025.

Real Madrid holds the record for the most titles, having claimed victory five times.

The revamped format for the 2025 edition will feature 32 teams competing for the championship in venues across the host nation. This includes 12 teams from Europe, 6 from South America, 4 from Asia, 4 from Africa, 4 from North, Central America, and the Caribbean, 1 from Oceania, and 1 from the host country.

  • The teams are divided into eight groups of four, with each team playing three matches in a round-robin style.
  • The top two teams from each group will move on to the knockout stage, starting with the round of 16 and culminating in the final.

The inaugural FIFA Club World Championship took place in Brazil in 2000.  It coincided with the Intercontinental Cup, which featured the champions of the UEFA Champions League and the Copa Libertadores. Both tournaments recognized by FIFA as crowning club world champions in 2017. In 2005, the Intercontinental Cup integrated into the FIFA Club World Championship.  In 2006, the tournament was officially renamed the FIFA Club World Cup. The winning team receives the FIFA Club World Cup trophy along with a FIFA World Champions certificate.
