🏆👉   Lazio lost the UEFA Europa Conference League Round of 16, First Leg against AZ Alkmaar on Tuesday 7 March 2023 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy.  Alkmaar overturn Lazio’s initial advantage, signed by Pedro with Vangelis Pavlidis in the first half and with Milos Kerkez in the 62nd minute. Sarri’s team has an excellent approach to the match, but AZ is more balanced and cynical and takes home the first round. The Second Leg will be played on Thursday 16 March at the AFAS Stadion in the Netherlands.

Lazio opened the score in the 18th minute. Pedro defeated AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper Mathew Ryan with a left-footed shot to the center. The assist is by Mattia Zaccagni.

AZ Alkmaar equalized in the 45th minute. Vangelis Pavlidis defeated Lazio goalkeeper Luís Maximiano with a right-footed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Jesper Karlsson.

Alkmaar took the lead in the 62nd minute breaking the draw with a goal by Milos Kerkez.

Stats before the game: Lazio and AZ Alkmaar have never met in European competition before.  AZ Alkmaar has already met Italian teams (Inter, Udinese and Napoli) in European competitions, collecting three wins, one draw and two defeats in six matches. AZ have last met an Italian club in European competition in the group stage of the 2020/21 UEFA Europa League (a 1-0 away win and a 1-1 home draw against Napoli). Lazio are unbeaten in their last three knockout matches (W1 D2) in Europe, despite losing each of their previous six such matches; for the biancocelesti this will be the first knockout match against a Dutch opponent.
