🏆👉   Lazio lost the UEFA Europa Conference League Round of 16, Second Leg against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday 16 March 2023 at the AZ Stadion in Alkmaar, Netherlands. The aggregate result is 4-2. Sarri’s team not only lost the first leg but also loses the second leg and are now out of the Conference League in the round of 16.  Felipe Anderson’s goal in the first half had given hope to the biancocelesti, but Alkmaar showed strength and compactness and with Karlsson and Pavlidis sealing the victory. AZ Alkmaar qualified to the Quarterfinals.

Lazio opened the score in the 21st minute. Felipe Anderson defeated AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper Mathew Ryan with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Mattia Zaccagni.

AZ Alkmaar equalized in the 28th minute. Jesper Karlsson defeated Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel with a right-footed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Jordy Clasie.

Problems for Lazio. Alkmaar took the lead in the 62nd minute. Vangelis Pavlidis scored with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Jesper Karlsson.

Stats before the game: AZ won their only previous meeting with Lazio in European competitions 2-1, in Rome, in the first leg last week.  AZ are unbeaten in all three home matches in European competitions played against Italian teams: two wins (against Inter and Udinese) followed by a draw against Napoli, in the 2020/21 Europa League.  AZ have lost just two of the 34 home games they have played in the knockout stages of European competitions (W22, D10), but those two defeats have come in two of their last four such games, in the 2013 Europa League quarter-finals /14 against Benfica (0-1) and against Lyon (1-4) in the round of 32 of the 2016/17 Europa League.  Lazio have won only one of their last 11 away games in the knockout phase of European competitions (D4 L6), against Dinamo Kiev in the round of 16 of the 2017/18 Europa League (2-0); the biancocelesti have been eliminated in nine of the last 10 knockout phase matches in which they lost the first leg.
