Napoli, 2nd position with 32 points and a positive goal difference of +12
What a pivotal moment! Napoli not only faced defeat in the Serie A Week 15 match but also slipped from the top spot! Lazio triumphed at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Sunday, December 8, 2024, in Naples, Italy. Napoli now sits in second place with 32 points, while Lazio has climbed to third, tying with Inter and Fiorentina at 31 points.
This win is a significant morale booster for Lazio, following their success in the Coppa Italia and now in the league. It was an exhilarating match, with both teams playing aggressively. The Biancocelesti took the lead late in the game with a goal from Isaksen, and although Napoli pushed hard for an equalizer, they couldn’t quite find the back of the net in the closing moments.
Interestingly, Lazio has not lost to Napoli in their last three Serie A encounters, winning two and drawing one, after previously losing all four of their earlier matchups.

Lazio gained the upper hand in the 79th minute when Gustav Isaksen found the back of the net with a stunning left-footed shot aimed at the top left corner. Tijjani Noslin set him up perfectly with a throw-in, allowing Isaksen to take control, shift to his left, outsmart Olivera, and fire the ball past Napoli’s goalkeeper, Alex Meret, into the far post.

✅ Stats before the game:
Lazio holds the record for the most defeats against Napoli in Serie A, with 54 losses, and they are the second team against whom Napoli has netted the most goals, totaling 192—just behind Bologna, who have conceded 197. Recently, Lazio has managed to remain unbeaten in three of their last four encounters with the league leaders, including two wins and a draw, with their only loss being against Napoli. This is a stark contrast to their previous record, where they lost 16 out of 17 matches against Napoli, winning just once.
Napoli has managed to keep a clean sheet in nine matches this season, which is only surpassed by Juventus, who have ten. Remarkably, the Partenopei have only achieved double-digit clean sheets in their first 15 Serie A games once before, back in the 1970/71 season. On the other hand, Lazio has faced all four of their losses in this championship while playing away, the latest being a 3-1 defeat to Parma at the Tardini. However, the Biancocelesti have found some success recently, winning two of their last three away matches, matching their total victories from the previous eight away games (2 draws, 4 losses).
Lazio and Napoli are tied for the most goals scored during injury time in the second half of Serie A, each netting four. In the broader context, only Atalanta has outscored Lazio in the second half this season, with 18 goals compared to Lazio’s 17. Napoli has been solid defensively, allowing the fewest goals from set pieces this season, having conceded just one penalty against Parma. On the other hand, Lazio has scored nine goals from set pieces, which is only surpassed by Fiorentina’s 11, while they are tied with Atalanta.
Player Stats
Giovanni Simeone has a particular knack for finding the net against Lazio, having scored eight goals in 14 matches, making him the top scorer against the Biancocelesti in the league.
Mattia Zaccagni, alongside Riccardo Orsolini, is one of the two Italian players to have scored at least five goals in each of the last five Serie A seasons, contributing five goals for Lazio this season and being involved in three goals against Napoli.
