🏆👉 Lazio triumphed over Real Sociedad in the UEFA Europa League Matchday 7 on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy. It was nearly a flawless performance for Lazio, who effectively put the Real Sociedad challenge behind them in the first half, securing their spot in the Europa League round of 16 with a game to spare. Baroni’s squad came out strong, taking the lead with Gila, who skillfully found the ball in the box and scored past Remiro. Just half an hour in, the Spaniards were reduced to ten men after Munoz received a second yellow card. In quick succession, the Biancocelesti added two more goals in the 32nd and 34th minutes, courtesy of Zaccagni and Castellanos.
The second half was largely dominated by Lazio, although a momentary lapse in concentration allowed Real Sociedad to score, with Barrenechea netting a diving header. Throughout the match, there were three shots that struck the woodwork, including a post for each team and a crossbar hit by Pedro from Lazio.
Huge congratulations to @OfficialSSLazio for reaching the Round of 16 in the UEFA Europa League! Forza Lazio, let’s keep the momentum going! https://t.co/I2rALdrkyr

Captain Mattia Zaccagni scores in the 32nd minute, extending the lead to 2-0. He strikes with a right-footed shot aimed at the center. Gustav Isaksen provides the assist. The hosts make a strong push down the left flank with Tavares, who works well with Isaksen. Isaksen then delivers a great pass into the area for the captain, who finishes it off flawlessly!

Stats before the game
This will mark the first encounter between Lazio and Real Sociedad. The Biancocelesti have managed to secure only one victory in their last 13 matches against Spanish teams across all competitions (D4 L8), with six losses in their last seven outings (D1). On the other hand, Real Sociedad has not won any of their last eight matches against Italian clubs (D5 L3) and has yet to achieve an away victory against a Serie A side (D2 L3). Lazio has been impressive in the UEFA Europa League, winning five out of six matches (D1) and aiming to achieve more than five wins in Europe for the first time since the 2017-18 season, when they won seven. However, Lazio is currently struggling at home, remaining winless in their last three matches (D2 L1) and could face a longer streak without a home win for the first time since February-March 2018, when they went four games without a victory (D3 L1) across the Coppa Italia, Serie A, and Europa League.
Lazio has drawn their last two matches at the Olimpico across all competitions and could face the possibility of three consecutive home draws for the first time since 2007, when they had four in a row. Real Sociedad, on the other hand, has secured victories in eight of their last 14 UEFA Europa League matches (with 2 draws and 4 losses), including their last two games, where they outscored their opponents 5-0 (2-0 against Ajax and 3-0 against Dynamo Kiev).
Lazio remains unbeaten in their last six matches in major European competitions (5 wins and 1 draw) and hasn’t gone seven or more games without a loss since the period from September 2015 to March 2016, when they achieved nine consecutive unbeaten matches, all in the Europa League.
In this Europa League season, Real Sociedad has achieved 79 open play sequences with at least 10 passes, ranking just behind Manchester United (95) and Roma (102) in the current tournament. Lazio boasts five players who have scored at least five goals this season across all competitions: Tijjani Noslin (5), Mattia Zaccagni (6), Boulaye Dia (7), Pedro (7), and Valentín Castellanos (9). Only Chelsea (six) and Arsenal (seven) have more players with five or more goals in the top five European leagues for the 2024/25 season.
