🏆👉 Lazio failed to win the UEFA Europa League Quarterfinals Second Leg on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Florence, Italy. What an exciting match! Lazio fought back from a 2-0 deficit in the first leg to secure a 3-1 victory in the return leg, with goals from Castellanos, Noslin, and Dia. However, the Biancocelesti were ultimately eliminated in the penalty shootout, with crucial misses from Tchaouna, Noslin, and Castellanos proving decisive.
In a historic moment, this marks the first time a Norwegian team has reached the semi-finals of a European competition. Now, only two Italian teams remain in European tournaments: Inter, who will compete against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals, and Fiorentina, who have also advanced to the Conference League semi-finals after a thrilling match against Betis.
Lazio recently faced their league rivals Roma in a derby that ended in a 1-1 draw at the Olimpico, with Soulé equalizing after Romagnoli had given Roma the lead. Despite the draw, Lazio showed promise, bouncing back from a lackluster performance a week earlier in Norway.
Lazio opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Valentín Castellanos found the net with a close-range right-footed shot aimed at the center. Gustav Isaksen provided the assist. Castellanos cleverly outmaneuvered goalkeeper Nikita Haykin with a heel flick. It was a stunning play by Lazio, particularly under pressure, thanks to Isaksen’s involvement.

First half is over. The Norwegians were a menace early on and again late in the half, but Lazio is in front thanks to a brilliant backheel goal from Valentin Castellanos. Lazio arguably deserved a larger lead than 1-0, particularly after Mattia Zaccagni’s shot hit the crossbar and is still rattling.
Lazio found the back of the net once again in the 93rd minute. Tijjani Noslin netted a close-range goal with a right-footed shot aimed at the bottom right corner. The assist came from Alessio Romagnoli, who capitalized on a corner kick awarded after a foul by Odin Bjørtuft. Just when it seemed like hope was lost, Noslin managed to score from the goal line, outsmarting Haikin after Romagnoli’s header, which ultimately led to extra time.

What a spectacular moment in extra time! In the 100th minute, Boulaye Dia found the back of the net with a close-range header, thanks to an assist from Mattéo Guendouzi. The Biancocelesti completed their comeback with Dia’s decisive goal, set up beautifully by Guendouzi from the left side. Now, they must hold on to this 3-0 lead, as this result would see Lazio progress to the next round.

Oh no! In the 109th minute, Andreas Helmersen found the net for Bodo with a powerful header into the top left corner, assisted by Isak Määttä. This goal was a tougher challenge than the one Helmersen missed at the end of the second half. It was a flawless header from Määttä’s setup. Lazio has to regroup and start over.
