🏆👉  Lazio faced a setback in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League Quarterfinals on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the Aspmyra Stadium in Bodo, Norway. This marks their first quarterfinal appearance in a European tournament since the 2017/18 Europa League, where they were narrowly defeated by RB Salzburg with an aggregate score of 6-5.

The last time they progressed beyond the quarterfinals was in the 2002/03 UEFA Cup against Beşiktaş. The match was largely dominated by Bodo/Glimt, who rightfully earned the victory. In fact, Lazio could have found themselves in a much worse position, managing only a single shot from Tchaouna towards the end. Thankfully, Mandas made two incredible saves to keep the scoreline respectable.

While it’s a tough challenge ahead, Lazio still has a chance to turn things around in the second leg next Thursday, April 17, at the Olimpico Stadium. On Sunday, Lazio will return to action for the derby against Roma. Being eliminated would be a significant blow, especially considering the implications for Italy’s fifth team in the Champions League. With Lazio’s defeat, Italy’s chances of improving its UEFA ranking against Spain would diminish.

This matchup was the inaugural European encounter between Bodø/Glimt and Lazio. The Norwegian side has triumphed in their last three European home matches against Italian teams, having defeated Sampdoria in the 1994 European Cup Winners’ Cup and Roma twice during the 2021/22 Conference League.

Stats before the game

Lazio’s previous encounters with Norwegian teams in Europe were limited to the 2015/16 Europa League, where they secured victories against Rosenborg, winning 3-1 at home and 2-0 away.

Bodø/Glimt has reached the quarter-finals of a major European competition for the second time in their history. Their previous experience in this stage also involved Italian opposition, where they lost 5-2 on aggregate to Roma in the 2021/22 Conference League, despite winning the first leg at home 2-1.
