Marchisio wants Coppa Italia first

Not content with winning a fourth straight Scudetto, not content with a place in the Champions League final, Il Principino’s hunger for success is insatiable. In true Juve style.

“Our number one target at the moment is the Coppa Italia. After that we can start thinking about the Champions League,” insisted Claudio Marchisio after Juventus set up a 6 June showdown with Barcelona thanks to their semi-final success over Real Madrid.

It says a lot about the Bianconeri spirit. But then our No.8 is Juve through and through.

So as Juventini across the globe were rushing out onto the streets to celebrate having a Champions League final to look forward to, Claudio was keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

Asked about a fan poll which showed Bianconeri supporters are confident of victory in Berlin, he replied thus: “It’s nice to know the fans are optimistic, but let’s live in the now for a bit. We’ve pulled off a great win against a top team. There’ll be time to think about the final further down the line.

Il Principino then took a moment to reflect on Juventus’ European campaign on the whole.

“The belief we have in ourselves now is something we’ve acquired gradually, starting from the group stage. It wasn’t easy. We lost two games but afterwards we grew in stature and we showed how far we had come in Dortmund.

“Now we have tonight’s victory. We’ve improved a lot and have seen the results this season,” Marchisio concluded.
