Juventus making the official announcement of renewing the contract of goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and Captain and defender Giorgio Chiellini for one more year until 2021. The announcement was made on Monday 29 June 2020. I agree with Juventus stating that Buffon and Chiellini are examples on the pitch and in the locker room, leaders, driving forces, bearers of the Bianconeri DNA, who wear it as a second skin.
Buffon, born on 28 January 1978 (42 years old) in Carrara, Italy, continues his strong commitment with Juventus. Buffon has won the Scudetto with Juventus nine times.
Buffon shares Serie A’s joint record appearance holder with the ex-AC Milan Captain Paolo Maldini, playing in the Serie A 647 times, and also holds the appearance record for the Italian National team, with 176 caps between 1997-2018, winning the 2006 World Cup.
Buffon rejoined Juventus last summer after a year with Paris Saint Germain. Buffon is now the second-choice goalkeeper behind former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
Chiellini, born on 14 August 1984 in Pisa, Italy, (35 years old), succeeded Gigi Buffon as Juventus Captain on 29 June 2018. Chiellini has won eight Scudetto and four Coppa Italia – Italian Cups.
