🏆👉 Croatia win the FIFA World Cup Quarterfinals defeating Brazil on penalties on Friday 9 December 2022 at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar. The highlight of the game is Neymar scoring 77 international goals joining “O Rei Pelé at the top of Brazil’s male goalscoring charts.  The sour note is the fall of Brazil.  Croatia achieved this important victory and send Brazil home, thus becoming the first semi-finalists of this World Cup. Neymar’s goal in the first overtime had opened the gates of paradise for Brazil, however, they recovered from Petkovic’s goal. No Croatian trembled from the penalty spot, while Rodrygo was rejected with losses by Livakovic and Marquinhos hit the post right after the decisive penalty.`

Brazil had never lost in their previous four matches (W3 D1) against Croatia – until today- in all competitions: this will be the first meeting between the teams since the Brazil’s 2-0 friendly win in June 2018.

In the round of 16, the runners-up of the world had eliminated Japan only after penalties, while for Brazil, among the favorites for the final victory, there was South Korea, defeated 4-1. Dalic lines up Pasalic in attack in the trident with Perisic and Kramaric central striker. Tite confirms the heavy attack with Neymar from the first minute together with Raphinha, Vinicius, and Richarlison.

Brazil opened the score in extra time in the 105+1. Forward Neymar defeated Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livaković with a right-footed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Lucas Paquetá.

Croatia equalized for the 1-1 in the 117th minute. Bruno Petković equalized defeating Brazil goalkeeper Alisson with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Mislav Orsic.

Stats before the game: Croatia have lost four of their five World Cup matches against South American sides, the 3-0 win over Argentina in 2018 being the exception. Two of those four defeats came against Brazil: 1-0 in 2006 and 3- 1 in 2014 (both in the group stage). After beating Germany 2-0 in the final in 2002, Brazil have lost all of their last five World Cup knockout games against European nations: of these, three in the quarter-finals (against France in 2006, the ‘Netherlands in 2010 and Belgium in 2018). In a run that began at EURO 2008, seven of Croatia’s last eight knockout matches in major competitions (World Cup and European Championship) have been resolved in extra time, with the sole exception of the 2018 World Cup final. they have progressed in all four matches at ‘extra time’ at the World Cup, three of these after the penalty lottery. Brazil could reach the semifinals of the World Cup for the ninth time: only Germany has done better (12). By contrast, Croatia have reached at least the semi-finals of the competition on both previous occasions they progressed from the group stage (1998 and 2018).
