Azzurri squad announced for France and Israel: first call-ups for Donnarumma, Romagnoli, Belotti and Pavoletti

Italy head coach Gian Piero Ventura has announced his first Azzurri squad and Gianluigi Donnarumma, Alessio Romagnoli, Andrea Belotti and Leonardo Pavoletti have all received their first international call-ups, although Pavoletti took part in the pre-Euro training camp. 26 players have been called up by the new head coach for the friendly against France in Bari on 1st September (ko 21:00 CEST) and the side’s first World Cup qualifier against Israel in Haifa on 5th September (ko 20:45).

As indicated yesterday, Ventura has decided to continue with a similar team to the one that took part in the European Championships and includes 15 players who went to France. Several players make their comebacks to the Azzurri squad including Marco Verratti, who last played on 13th October 2015 against Norway in Euro qualifying; Manolo Gabbiadini, whose last game was on 17th November 2015 against Romania; and Luca Antonelli, who last appeared on 29th March 2016 against Germany.

The players will meet in Coverciano tomorrow evening after the end of this weekend’s club fixtures. They will have their first training session on Monday morning at the National Training Centre.

On Wednesday evening, the Azzurri will travel to Bari ahead of their match against Euro 2016 runners-up France which takes place in the city on Thursday.
