Fiorentina faced a defeat in the UEFA Conference League against AEK Athens on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at the Artemio Franchi Stadium. Vanoli's European debut was disappointing. This marked Fiorentina's second consecutive loss in the Conference League. As a result, Fiorentina fell to seventeenth place in the standings, while AEK Athens climbed to tenth. Despite the tight standings, the Viola still have hopes for direct qualification to the round of 16, as only four points separate them from the top-seeded teams.
In the second half, Fiorentina came back with a more aggressive attitude, aiming to overturn the goal conceded by Gacinovic in the 35th minute of the first half. In the 55th minute, Ranieri had a goal ruled out for offside. Vanoli tried to enhance his team's attacking options by introducing Kean, but it was AEK Athens who nearly doubled their lead, with Zini hitting the post and Jovic also coming close. Fiorentina struggled to create threats until Dzeko struck the crossbar in the 76th minute.
In the upcoming round of the Conference League, Fiorentina will visit Swiss team Lausanne, while AEK Athens will take on Samsunspor.
