This will mark the first meeting ever in Europe between Sporting CP and Paris Saint-Germain FC. The French team will be the 12th club from France that the Portuguese side has encountered in Europe, and the first since they triumphed over Olympique Marseille 2-1 on Matchday 3 of this season's UEFA Champions League.
Paris Saint-Germain has managed to win just one of their eight away games in major European tournaments in Portugal (with 2 draws and 5 losses), which was a 1-0 win against Sporting Braga in the UEFA Cup back in March 2009, thanks to a goal from Guillaume Hoarau.
This will be Sporting CP's fifth encounter in the UEFA Champions League against the current champions; the previous four were against Real Madrid in the 2000-01 season (1 draw, 1 loss) and in 2016-17 (2 losses).
Paris Saint-Germain was unable to find the net in their 0-0 draw with Athletic Club on Matchday 6 of the UEFA Champions League, despite taking 18 shots and creating five significant chances. The Parisian team has not gone two consecutive matches without scoring in the competition since the 2023/24 semi-finals against Borussia Dortmund, and the last time they did so in the group stage/league phase was in the 2015/16 season during two back-to-back matches against Real Madrid.
