Atalanta defeated Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League, League Phase, Matchday 2 on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the New Balance Arena in Bergamo. This marks the second consecutive season that Atalanta and Club Brugge have clashed, with the Belgian team winning both encounters in the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League play-offs (5-2 on aggregate). Atalanta made a comeback to secure victory, initially facing challenges against Club Brugge in the first half but taking control in the second. Christos Tzolis's goal was quickly matched by Lazar Samardzic's penalty and then by Mario Pašalić's last-minute header, with Musah providing the assist. With determination and key substitutions, Atalanta triumphed over Brugge, putting their past struggles behind them. Following a heavy loss to PSG in Paris two weeks prior, a response was essential, yet there were moments during the match when it seemed Atalanta might falter, reminiscent of their previous encounter with the Belgians in last season's tournament. In the upcoming round, Atalanta is set to compete against Slavia Prague.

This quality makes him essential, even when other players are stealing the limelight.

Stats before the game.

Last season, Atalanta lost only three out of their 10 UEFA Champions League matches (W4 D3), with two of those losses coming against Club Brugge (the other loss was to Real Madrid). In fact, Atalanta experienced more defeats in the play-offs (two) than in their eight group stage matches (W4 D3 L1). Club Brugge's wins over Atalanta last season ended a 15-match winless streak against Italian teams in major European competitions (D6 L9) that lasted from November 2003 to January 2025. Atalanta has lost their last three UEFA Champions League matches; this is their longest losing streak in the competition since the first three matches they lost between September and October 2019.
