Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
AC Milan, 11th position with 3 points and a positive goal difference of +1
Bologna, 13th position with 3 points and a goal difference of "0"

The objective was clear: "No room for errors." AC Milan triumphed over Bologna in Serie A Week 3 on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy. To put it simply, this win highlights the stats showing AC Milan has remained unbeaten in 19 of their last 20 Serie A matches against Bologna (W15 D4). Bologna's sole victory during this period was on February 27, when they won 2-1 at Dall'Ara. The star of the match was the "40 years old" Luka Modric, who netted the only goal. What a way to celebrate a belated birthday! GOOOOOAAAALLLLLLL

Here's the situation leading up to the match. AC Milan has not lost at home to Bologna in their last nine Serie A games (W7 D2), with their last home defeat against them dating back to January 6, 2016, when Emanuele Giaccherini scored. Since the 2016/17 season, Bologna is one of just two teams against which the Rossoneri have played nine home matches without a loss in the league, the other being Torino. AC Milan has secured three points from their first two matches this season, and in the previous four seasons under Massimiliano Allegri, from 2010/11 to 2013/14, the Rossoneri never won more than one of their first three Serie A games, achieving this only in their first five games in 2010/11 and 2012/13.

AC Milan suffered a defeat in their first home game of this Serie A season (1-2 against Cremonese) and have not begun a season without a home win in their first two matches since 2012/13, when they lost to Sampdoria and Atalanta.

After breaking a streak of four consecutive Serie A losses with a recent 1-0 win against Como, Bologna aims to achieve back-to-back victories for the first time since February and March, when they managed five consecutive wins, starting with a victory over AC Milan.

Bologna is currently facing a run of three straight away defeats in Serie A, one of which was against AC Milan last May; the Rossoblu have not experienced a longer away losing streak since July to October 2020, when they endured six losses, two of which were against the Rossoneri.

=======
The initial half of the match between Milan and Bologna concluded with a score of 0-0.

Milan began the game with confidence, but as time progressed, they lost their momentum and allowed Bologna to take charge. Allegri's squad, nonetheless, struck the woodwork on two occasions and had opportunities to go ahead before halftime.

In terms of ball possession during the first half, Milan held 41% while Bologna had 59%.

It's about that time! How about we throw a late birthday bash? Well, your wish has been fulfilled! Luka Modric marks his 40th birthday by scoring a goal in the 61st minute against Bologna. Modric found the net with a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner. The assist came from Alexis Saelemaekers.

NOTE: Indeed, Modric's first goal for AC Milan is historic in its own right. He becomes the fifth player at the age of forty to score, joining the ranks of Piola, Vierchowood, Costacurta, and Ibrahimovic!
