Reggiana took an early lead in the 13th minute when Cedric Gondo found the net with a right-footed shot from the center of the box into the bottom right corner.
Empoli had a chance to equalize in the 23rd minute, but the penalty was saved! Rares Ilie squandered a golden opportunity with a right-footed shot that was saved in the bottom left corner. The penalty was awarded by Andrea Bozzolan due to a handball in the penalty area.
