Although Empoli fell behind against Reggiana, they managed to equalize in the second half. The match concluded with a score of 1-1, leading to penalties. Reggiana took an early lead in the 13th minute when Cedric Gondo found the net with a right-footed shot from the center of the box into the bottom right corner.

Empoli had a chance to equalize in the 23rd minute, but the penalty was saved! Rares Ilie squandered a golden opportunity with a right-footed shot that was saved in the bottom left corner. The penalty was awarded by Andrea Bozzolan due to a handball in the penalty area.

At last, the equalizer came. Empoli leveled the score in the 64th minute when Rares Ilie scored with a right-footed shot from long distance that hit the high crossbar, assisted by Brando Moruzzi.
