Italy lost the UEFA Nations League Group A Matchday 4 game against Germany on Tuesday 14 June 2022 at the Borussia Park in Monchengladbach, Germany. After the draw against England, Italy failed big time to achieve a victory at the home of the Germans and lost the 1st position going down to the 3rd position. Germany crushed Italy. Germany, who drew all three matches in the tournament 1-1, gained the first win and overtaking in the standings against Italy.
The season of the national team ended with Italy’s failure to qualify for the World Cup, with the painful defeat against Argentina losing the “Finalissima,” and with Germany’s humiliating the Azzurri with a 5-2. The rebuilding of the Italian team is an uphill race.
After Matchday 4, Italy went down from the 1st to the 3rd position remaining with 5 points. Hungary took over the 1st position with 8 points and Germany the 2nd position with 7 points.

Stats before the game: Italy have drawn all of their last three games against Germany; only against England (open streak) and Poland (1975-1982) did Italhy draw four games in a row. Excluding friendlies, Italy has never lost against Germany (4W, 6N): the German national team is the one against which the Azzurri have played the most games without ever suffering a defeat (10) – excluding East Germany. Germany and Italy have met 12 times in the home of the Germans – not considering East Germany (neutral matches are excluded); the balance sheet is in perfect balance with four wins on each side and four draws. After having achieved five successes in a row, the most recent being in Germany in July 2021 against Belgium, the Azzurri have won only one of the last seven games played outside Italy (5D, 1L). Italy have drawn two of their last three games (1W), as many draws as those in the previous eight games (3W, 3P).
