🏆👉   Italy won the UEFA European 2024 Qualifiers  Group Stage – Group C against Malta on Sunday 26 March 2023 at the National Stadium – Ta’Qali. The Azzurri, after the bitter debut in the 2-1 loss against England, got their first 3 points. The victory thanks to the goals from Mateo Retegui and the own goal by Cain Attard.  Surely, the team needs to improve and see more goals in the upcoming games.

Stats before the game: Malta is the team against which Italy has played the most matches, always finding victory: the Azzurri have in fact won all eight matches, with an overall score of 21-2. Italy faced Malta four times in Euro qualifying, twice ahead of EURO 1988 and twice for EURO 2016: the Azzurri have always kept clean sheets, scoring a total of nine goals. Malta scored only one goal against Italy in the four matches played in Attard, on 19 December 1992, when Arrigo Sacchi sat on the blue bench (match ended 2-1 for Italy). After the defeat against Austria last November, Italy could lose two away games in a row for the second time under Mancini’s management (after those against France and Portugal in 2018, at the beginning of the coach’s mandate).
