Italy win the UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifier game against Ukraine on Tuesday 12 September 2023 at the San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy. Luciano Spalletti’s first win as coach of the national team. A brace from Davide Frattesi guaranteed the victory. In Group C, three teams tied on seven points in second place (Italy, Ukraine, North Macedonia). Italy, with one game in hand, will return to the field in a month for the matches against Malta and England.

Italy remained unbeaten in the eight previous matches against Ukraine, for an overall score of 15-3; the balance sheet reads six wins and two draws, with five clean sheets and never more than one goal conceded in a match by the Azzurri.

Italy opened the score in the 12th minute. Davide Frattesi defeated Ukraine goalkeeper Georgiy Bushchan with a right-footed shot to the box to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Mattia Zaccagni.

Ukrained shortened the distance in the 41st minute. Andrii Yarmolenko defeated Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma with a right-footed shot to the center.

The Azzurri did not score two consecutive victories in Milan from the period between September 2003 and March 2005.
