🏆👉   Italy lost the UEFA European 2024 Qualifiers  Group Stage – Group C defeated by England on Thursday 23 March 2023 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Napoli, Italy. The Azzurri react in the second half, Retegui scored with his debut goal by shortening the distance on an assist from Pellegrini, the English remain in 10 due to Luke Shaw’s expulsion but manage to hold on and win the first match of the qualifiers thanks to goals in the first half by Declan and Harry Kane.

Italy began the process of qualifying for the next European Championships as reigning Champions, facing the English, eliminated by France in the quarter-finals of the recent World Cup.European Qualification: Here we are again, as reigning Champions.

We return to the pitch on Sunday for the second day: Mancini’s boys will visit Malta while Southgate’s team will host Ukraine.

England opened the score in the 13th minute.  Declan Rice defeated Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma with a left-footed shot to the top right corner following a corner conceded by Donnarumma.

Problems for Italy conceding a penalty. In the 44th minute, Harry Kane converted the penalty with a right footed shot to the bottom right corner. The penalty is conceded by Giovanni Di Lorenzo after a handball.

Italy shortened the distance in the 56th minute Mateo Retegui defeated England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Lorenzo Pellegrini.

England remained with 10 players since the 80th minute. Luke Shaw got his second yellow card making it the automatic red card.

Stats before the game: Italy are unbeaten in six games against England (W2, D4), a record run of consecutive games without defeat for the Azzurri against this opponent. Italy have won four of their last six home matches against England (D2), the last home knockout by the Azzurri against the Three Lions dates back to May 24, 1961, 2-3 in a friendly.
