Turkey – Italy

✅ Here is Turkey vs Italy Preview for the UEFA Euro 2020 on Friday 11 June 2021 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy at 21:00.

Italy with a super boost.   The only meeting between Turkey and Italy between the World Cup and the European Championships was in Euro 2000, again on 11 June. It was the opening match of the two teams in the tournament, and it finished 2-1 for Italy thanks to goals from Antonio Conte and a penalty from Filippo Inzaghi. Okan Buruk scored Turkey’s first ever European goal.

This is Italy Head Coach Roberto Mancini’s first major tournament as Italy coach (World Cup + Europeans). As a player, Mancini only participated in one, playing four games at Euro ’88 and scoring the first goal of the entire tournament in a 1-1 draw with West Germany.

This will be Turkey Head Coach Senol Gunes’ second major tournament as coach of Turkey (World Cup + European Championships), 18 years after taking his national team to third place at the 2002 World Cup.

Stats showing that Italy have never lost at the Olympic Stadium between the World Cup and the European Championships (6W, 2N), keeping a clean sheet in their last 7 games.
Turkey will participate for the fifth time in the final phase of the European Championships; his best result so far has been a semi-final in 2008 – this is only the second time he has participated in the competition in two consecutive editions, after 1996 and 2000.
Turkey lost all 4 opening games in the European finals, including against Italy in the 2000 tournament (1-2).

Italy participates for the 10th time in the final phase of the European Championships: they won the competition on their first participation (1968) and since then they have reached the final twice without getting their hands on the trophy (2000, 2012).
Turkey have kept a clean sheet only once in their last 10 games between the World Cup and the European Championships, in a 2-0 win against the Czech Republic in the last match of the Euro 2016 group stage.

Despite having played 38 games at the European Championships, Italy has never scored more than two goals in a match. They have drawn more games than any other team in the history of the competition (16), also recording the most 0-0 (eight).

Italy was one of only two teams – together with Belgium – to win 100% of the matches in the qualifiers for Euro 2020 (10/10). He scored 37 goals (3.7 per game); it is the same number of goals scored by the Azzurri in the qualifiers for Euro 2016 and the 2018 World Cup, together (37 goals in 22 games).

Turkey have conceded just three goals in 10 matches in Euro 2020 qualifiers, the best defensive record alongside Belgium.
