Italy making their debut in the UEFA Euro 2020 defeating Turkey on Friday 11 June 2021 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy.  This is Italy Head Coach Roberto Mancini’s first major tournament as Italy coach (World Cup + Europeans). Giorgio Chiellini plays his fourth European Championship, equaling the Italy’s record of Gianluigi Buffon and Alessandro Del Piero. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma at 22 years old becomes the youngest ever goalkeeper to play at a major tournament (World Cup & Euros) for Italy.

The victory helping Italy to lead Group A with 3 points.  Switzerland and Wales play on Saturday 12 June to complete Matchday 1.

  • The only meeting between Turkey and Italy between the World Cup and the European Championships was in Euro 2000, again on 11 June. It was the opening match of the two teams in the tournament, and it finished 2-1 for Italy thanks to goals from Antonio Conte and a penalty from Filippo Inzaghi. Okan Buruk scored Turkey’s first ever European goal.


Italy opening the score in the 53rd minute. The indirect helping hand is given by Juventus defender Merih Demiral scoring an own goal!!! Imagine, this is the first time in European Championship history that the first goal of the tournament has been an own goal!

Party time!!! Lazio forward Ciro Immobile scoring for Italy delivering a right footed shot to delight the fans!!! Italy is now leading with a 2-0. Awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeee


Italy just rocking big time at the Olimpico. Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne scoring for the 3-0 in the 79th minute with a right footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Ciro Immobile, way to go!!!
