The Meazza Stadium in Milan will host Italy vs. Germany on Tuesday 15th November

The Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan will host the friendly fixture between Italy and Germany on Tuesday 15th November, four months after the sides met at the quarter-finals of EURO 2016 with the Germans winning on penalties.

It will be the 35th meeting between the sides, with Italy ahead on 15 wins, eleven draws and eight defeats. There have been many iconic fixtures from Italian football history between these two such as the first encounter which the Azzurri won 3-1 on 1st January 1923, the unforgettable 4-3 in Mexico City in 1970, the 3-1 win at the 1982 World Cup final and the 2-0 at the 2006 World Cup semi-finals. There is also more recent history such as Balotelli’s brace which sent Cesare Prandelli’s side to the Euro 2012 final and penalty success for Neuer and co in Bordeaux at the quarter-finals of the tournament in France.

Italy have played 55 matches in Milan, where on 15th May 1910 the Azzurri made their debut with a 6-2 win over France. The Meazza Stadium has been a true fortress for the Azzurri considering that the only two matches lost in Milan in 1911 and 1925 were played at the Arena Civica and the pitch at Campo Milan.

The most recent fixture in Milan was on 16th November 2014 as Italy and Croatia drew 1-1 in a Euro 2016 qualifier. Germany’s last appearance there was on 15th November 2013 with the scores finishing level at 1-1 with goals from Hummels and Abate.
