Italy: The Azzurri were at work with the Juventus players among them. Insigne: “Congratulations to the Under-20s”

Today was a day dedicated to the FIGC’s partners at Coverciano with the players going through a double training session ahead of the friendly in Nice on 7th June against Uruguay at 20:45 CEST and the World Cup qualifier with Liechtenstein on 11th June at 20:45 in Udine. The five Juventus players (Buffon, Barzagli, Chiellini, Bonucci and Marchisio) joined in the morning following Saturday’s Champions League final in Cardiff. Marco Verratti and Federico Bernardeschi will have their conditions monitored in the coming days. After celebrating his 26th birthday yesterday, Lorenzo Insigne was at today’s press conference to talk about the Uruguay match.

“I’m happy to have done well this year,” said the Napoli player. “When I’m in the national team, I always look to make myself available to the manager and give my all. Wednesday’s match is important, especially for the ranking.”

In Nice, Uruguay will probably be without Edinson Cavani who picked up a muscle issue in yesterday’s friendly defeat to the Republic of Ireland.

“I would have liked to have seen Cavani again,” added Insigne. “I consider him to be a great player, I was in my first season in Serie A and he helped me to grow a lot on and off the pitch.”

Insigne also discussed the arrival of the five Juventus players at Coverciano. “I saw them smiling because it’s always nice to be with Italy. We followed the match together at Coverciano on Saturday and it’s a shame about the result.”

On the other side of the spectrum, Insigne celebrated the Under-20 National Team making the semi-final of the World Cup. “I saw the Zambia match with Gigio (Donnarumma) and I want to congratulate the side for playing a great game with a man less, it was a great performance. Good luck to the guys for the semi-final and I hope that they’ll get to lift the trophy.”

Italy vs. Uruguay: Italy will be playing for the second time in Nice. The Allianz Riviera will see two of the most successful teams in world football meet. Italy can boast of four World Cups, one European Championship while Uruguay have won two World Cups, 15 Copa Americas and two Olympic gold medals.

Italy vs. Liechtenstein: Four days after the match in France, Italy will be back in European Qualifying action. Liechtenstein can’t be underestimated as the Azzurri look to remain at the top of Group E with Spain who face FYR Macedonia at the same time in Skopje. Albania will face Israel in Haifa. It will be the last match of the season for the Azzurri in Udine before they return against Spain in Madrid on 2n September in a crucial fixture.

Udine Città Azzurra. For the match, the Friulian city will welcome Italy with a number of events promoted by the FIGC and the council to bring together fans, promote grassroots football and the positive values of sport. The World Cup trophies will also be on display along with the Under-21s’ three European Championships at Palazzo Morpurgo.

Social Responsibility. The FIGC will work together with the UNHCR for the match as part of the ‘Together with Refugees’ scheme on with the International Day of the Refugee on 20th June. UNHCR representatives will also be in attendance at UNHCR to see the the final of the Goal! Project.
