Milan will host the return leg of the play-off with Sweden. Carlo Tavecchio: “A decision shared with the Coach”

Milan’s Stadio Giuseppe Meazza will host the return leg of the play-off between Italy and Sweden in World Cup qualifying on Monday 13th November. Carlo Tavecchio announced the host city at the Federal Council. “It was a decision shared with the coach,” said the FIGC President. “We are certain that Milan will respond as well as possible as they have always done for the Azzurri shirt.”

The Federation is thus counting on Milan to do its bit in helping send Italy to Russia 2018. The National Team’s first match was played on 15th May 1910 at the Arena Civica in Milan and ended in a 6-2 win over France. The Stadio Meazza is a real lucky charm for Italy who have only lost twice in Milan (1911 and 1925) with both defeats coming at the Arena Civica or Campo Milan. The last match at the Meazza was on 15th November 2016 and that was a goalless draw with Germany. Italy have won three and drawn one of their matches with Sweden in the city. The first was a 2-2 draw at the Campo Milan in 1924 before wins at the Meazza in 1971, 1973 and 1984.
