As for the most recent entrants to the Azzurri set-up, Gianluca Lapadula spoke to the media first. The player recently scored his debut goal in Serie A and also earned his first call-up from coach Ventura following Manolo Gabbiadini’s withdrawal. The Rossoneri striker did not hide his ambitions: “In every thing I do I give my very best,” said Lapadula. “But this should only be the start. I am enjoying a very happy moment in my life. My primary quality is my determination and I believe that this will be just as important with the national team as it is in Serie A. I have found a very united group of players here; you feel it immediately. I have obtained my first call-up at the age of 26, so we will see what happens. The fact I am simply here is giving me plenty of joy. My first phone call after my selection was to my mother; at first she did not say anything because she did not believe me, however, just like all of my family she is very happy.”
After being called-up for the first time in August, Leonardo Pavoletti’s dream is now set to continue: “I've always been told that when a coach gives you instructions,” said Pavoletti. “It means that he is showing an interest in you, so I would say that's a positive thing. Coach Ventura obviously wanted to chat a lot with me because I am not used to playing with another striker. My movement was still not perfect and he wanted correct and limit my mistakes. As for Belotti and Immobile, I compare myself to them and this is the right thing to do: we are all young and we want to do the best we possibly can. The coach will then make his necessary decisions and I am always at his disposal. Every training camp could be the last for me so I will enjoy it right until the end.”
Italy could take one step closer to qualifying for the next World Cup should they win in Vaduz on Saturday: “We are very focused on the match against Liechtenstein,” Pavoletti continued. “It is important that we win this game if we are to quality. Following this we will then start to think about how we will take on Germany.”
