According to some rumors that emerged on Tuesday evening, Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues to be involved in Milan’s management, despite recent reports that he had taken a step back after a major reorganization of the club’s leadership during the summer.
On Tuesday, some reports had circulated, initially published by Sky Sport and then picked up by several other outlets, claiming that Ibrahimovic no longer had a direct operational role at Milan after the restructuring of the club’s management hierarchy.
The day after the end of the 2025-26 season, Milan dismissed in one sweep head coach Massimiliano Allegri, sporting director Igli Tare, technical director Geoffrey Moncada, and chief executive officer Giorgio Furlani, following a disappointing end to the league campaign in which the Rossoneri missed out on Champions League qualification.
Currently, the club is led by chief executive officer Massimo Calvelli, Hendrick Almstadt, director of transfer operations, and Bobby Gardiner, head of football intelligence.
Ibrahimovic, by contrast, was never a direct employee of Milan after the end of his playing career. He served as a consultant for the club’s owners, RedBird, and for its chief executive officer, Gerry Cardinale.
Over time, however, it has not always been clear what exactly his role was. Ibrahimovic had gradually taken on an increasingly prominent presence at Milanello, even giving interviews, taking part in press conferences, and presenting new signings, tasks usually entrusted to a director or the head coach.
In recent months, though, the Swede appears to have adopted a more low-profile stance. His last appearance at the Milanello training center dates back to September 14, after a previous six-month period without visits to the facility. Meanwhile, rumors had circulated about a possible deterioration in the relationship between Ibrahimovic and former head coach Massimiliano Allegri.
On Tuesday morning, Sky Sport Italia had reported that Ibrahimovic’s influence and role within Milan were declining and that the Swede was no longer regarded as a de facto executive figure.
Ibrahimovic continues to work closely with Cardinale
According to the latest updates from Gianluca Di Marzio and Peppe Di Stefano, however, the situation would be different.
Ibrahimovic would in fact continue to work closely with Gerry Cardinale. The fact that he has recently been seen less often in Milan does not mean that he has abandoned the Rossoneri project or that he is no longer involved in the club’s activities.
Despite his lower public profile and the changes at the top of the club, therefore, the Swede would remain a figure still tied to Milan and to the RedBird ownership.
